There are 6 units to complete, they are-
201: contribute to positive relationships
202: Help to keep children safe
203: Support children’s development
204: Use support to develop own practice in children’s care , learning and development
205: Prepare and maintain environments to meet children’s needs.
206: Support children’s play and learning
You will also need to choose 1 optional unit.
What are the entry Qualifications?
There are no formal qualifications but you must be 16 years of age and be working in a childcare setting
What age range does it cover?
From 0 to 16 years
How long will it take to complete the course?
There is no set amount of time to complete the award. It all depends on your motivation and commitment. Realistically, it should take between 6 – 12 months to complete all of the units.
Will I need to attend a class?
No, you will be visited in your workplace by your assessor.
Will I need to do Key-skills?
No but you should have good Literacy and Numercary skills. The assessor will discuss this with you.
What if I need extra help?
Your assessor will help you and we recommend you ask a level 3 member of staff to mentor you.

There are 5 Mandatory units to complete. They are –
301: Development and promote positive relationships
302: Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
303: Promote children’s development
304: Reflect on and develop practice
305: Protect and promote children’s rights
You will also need to choose 4 optional units. Your assessor will give you a list to choose from. There are 41 different units so you can choose those that are relevant to your particular type of work.
What are the entry qualifications?
You must be over 16 years of age, have a level 2 childcare qualification, and work in a setting with children in either a paid voluntary capacity.
What age range does it cover?
From 0 to 16 years
How long will it take to complete the course?
There is no set amount of time to complete the award. It all depends on your motivation and commitment. Realistically, it should take between 8 - 15 months to complete all of the units.

402: Support policies, procedures and practice to safeguard children and ensure their inclusion and well-being
403: Support programmes for the promotion of children’s development
404: Reflect on, review and develop own practise
You will also need to choose 5 optional units. Your assessor will give you a list to choose from. There are 29 different units so you can choose those that are relevant to your particular type of work.
The course is designed for those who have managerial responsibilities in a wide range of childcare settings.
What are the entry qualifications?
You must be over 18 years of age, work in a childcare setting and be able to demonstrate that you have high level managerial responsibility. You will also need to show evidence of your Level 3 qualification in childcare.
What age range does it cover?
From 0 to 16 years
How long will it take to complete the course?
There is no set amount of time to complete the award. It all depends on your motivation and commitment. Realistically, it should take between 9 - 16 months to complete all of the units.
